Back a couple years ago I built up a Worsley Works SW-8 kit, documented in a series that starts here<\/a>. Not an easy kit! I have one more of the kits, and hoped to build it someday to run two of these together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Look at what was on eBay<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Then, very recently another of these models came up for sale. It was not complete but complete enough to save a bunch of time. Here it is with my SW-8. From the side it looks pretty nice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this view I’d point out one inaccuracy and one accuracy of the NYC engine. On the positive side, while a little crude, the fuel tanks are more correctly sized. On the negative side, it should only have one stack, and it’s not tapered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building a kit with no instructions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While there are not that many people to guess from, I’m not sure the builder of this model. They did a pretty clean job but there are some things I’ll change. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Something I won’t change particularly though is the cab., although it does need more handrails. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In front of the cab I can probably live with but they didn’t get the taper worked out as well as I did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I worked mine out for an actual drive that runs nicely! I’ll want to do something very similar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The big problem to fix …<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The front end is a bit problematic. I think I came to the correct solution in terms of building it, and filed in the curves. Steps I describe in this article<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think the builder of the NYC engine stacked up the parts incorrectly and it needs worked over significantly. It will require taking the hood off the frame. With a first step before that of stripping the paint. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In any case, I still am really happy to have this model. I’ll work it over and make a drive for it, will be fun to operate two of these nicely detailed engines together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
