Back in 2008 I kitbashed two Life-Like stock pens, combining them into one larger pen for the layout. The post about that is here<\/a>, and the pens as they were then are below. I never painted them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fast forward to now, I’ve rearranged things on the layout, in part to have a larger stock pen in a more logical location. I had a supply of extra parts from the original kitbash, and purchased as well one more kit to make a larger pen with two loading chutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new kit was molded in a different color of plastic, so it is easy to see how the parts combined below. I built the model inside a box lid to keep things square and flat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A lot of test fitting and puzzling, but enjoyable work. This is the maximum size from three kits. I spaced the loading chutes to fit two Scale-Craft stock cars perfectly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Below is a view of the finished model before painting. The model actually is in two parts, the left side is almost a standard kit and the right is the heavy kitbash. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And finally the model on the layout. I still need to rework the underlying scenery, but I like where the scene is heading. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ll add, yes, they are HO stock pens. I like to think, on the back of the layout as they are, there is a forced perspective thing at work. The chutes match OO cars, and with that matching dimension they look perfectly fine — even though a bit under scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
