{"id":57,"date":"2018-12-16T21:24:00","date_gmt":"2018-12-16T21:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/americanootoday.com\/?p=57"},"modified":"2021-06-19T20:04:21","modified_gmt":"2021-06-19T20:04:21","slug":"a-brief-look-at-a-drovers-caboose-or-two","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/americanootoday.com\/?p=57","title":{"rendered":"A brief look at a drover\u2019s caboose (or two)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Drover\u2019s caboose models have been scratchbuilt in American OO a few times, one being visible in the published layout photos of the Norfolk and Ohio of Carl Appel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This model is not that same model built by Appel (the roof shapes are different, for example), but it is the same general prototype and I will be working it over for my Orient railway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Almost certainly Appel and the builder of this model were working from the drawings published in <i>Model Railroader<\/i> and reprinted in <i>The Model Railroader Cyclopedia<\/i>. There we learn that the prototype car is from the San Luis Central. My dad told me that his dad rode in one of these on the ATSF to take cattle to market, so let\u2019s imagine you are a drover riding in this car, on a cold day. Where is the stove? It is in the baggage compartment! With a little more digging I see that it is from the June, 1947 issue of&nbsp;<i>Model Railroader<\/i> and is a model built by H. R. Treat of Teaneck, NJ. In the caption it says that he \u201clikes unique and unusual equipment\u201d and that he built the model from the <i>Cyclopedia <\/i>plans for his Barbaraton &amp; Theapolis RR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any more examples out there?
