This is the same gentleman also known as <a href=\"https:\/\/americanootoday.com\/?p=775\">H. L. \u201cRed\u201d Adams who produced early OO gauge models in the Chicago area, profiled in this earlier post<\/a>. Looking at the scenery first with this second photo, it is built up on a wood framing with screen wire and wood fiber plaster. &#8220;When the plaster was dry, Herb applied cheap, flat white oil paint.&#8221; This he adjusted to various tones of color using &#8220;10-cent tubes of color.&#8221; From the photo it is clear this made for a good place to run trains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/americanootoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Adams-Min-RR-3-41-d.jpg?resize=470%2C284&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1617\" width=\"470\" height=\"284\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/americanootoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Adams-Min-RR-3-41-d.jpg?w=771&amp;ssl=1 771w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/americanootoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Adams-Min-RR-3-41-d.jpg?resize=300%2C181&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/americanootoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Adams-Min-RR-3-41-d.jpg?resize=768%2C464&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 470px) 100vw, 470px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>His locomotives at this date are reported to be \u201ca Pacific, an Atlantic, and a ten-wheeler for the branch line\u201d and equipment includes 15 freight cars, a streamliner, and standard passenger cars. The other theme of the article has to do with lighting, this last photo giving a view of what he was doing. It is a&nbsp;close up of an wood S-P caboose interior. It is riding on Scale-Craft trucks but note what is inside; glass rods and a lighting system. From the article,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The car markers are so built that they &#8220;pipe&#8221; the light to the outside. The ends of the rods are gound on a wheel or filed so that there are four facets on the sides at the end, and a single facet on the extreme tip. The glass may be bent to shape in any gas flame or bunsen burner.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"464\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/americanootoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Adams-Min-RR-3-41-c.jpg?resize=640%2C464&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1618\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/americanootoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Adams-Min-RR-3-41-c.jpg?resize=1024%2C743&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/americanootoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Adams-Min-RR-3-41-c.jpg?resize=300%2C218&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/americanootoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Adams-Min-RR-3-41-c.jpg?resize=768%2C557&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/americanootoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Adams-Min-RR-3-41-c.jpg?w=1079&amp;ssl=1 1079w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With the track plan I would offer this final quote, which gives a good sense of what he had achieved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Although it isn&#8217;t especially apparent in the accompanying photographs, Herb&#8217;s equipment is done with the utmost detail &#8212; and this applies to his scenery and buildings as well as his locomotives and rolling stock. He&#8217;s a fellow who takes pains and pride in his work, and a string of varnish streaking its humming way along his pike looks just as well in the glare of flood-lamps as it does with lights lowered to simulate the night time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a number of other interesting articles in <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Miniature Railroading<\/span>, a magazine that started publishing in 1938 and quit publication in 1941.
