One of many ongoing projects is modifying a S-C 0-6-0 boiler for a 2-6-0 project. I have several extra smokeboxes, which pointed out the curiosity seen in the photo.

What’s up with the words? My guess is that Scale-Craft used a pipe fitting or a decorative fitting that they purchased and modified for the smokebox on this model.

In any case, one of these is going to get modified for the project engine which I think will come out as a handsome but chunky 2-6-0. More on that another time.
